Nova Scotia to host 2012 Council of the Federation Summer Meeting
VANCOUVER, July 22, 2011 --- Premier Darrell Dexter today announced that Nova Scotia will host the 2012 Council of the Federation summer meeting. He made the announcement at the wrap up of this year’s summer meeting in Vancouver.
“I look forward to welcoming my colleagues and their delegations to Nova Scotia for the Council’s meeting next summer,” said Premier Dexter. “It will be a particularly important meeting for us all as the renewal of federal transfers will be fast approaching.” Discussions will also focus on families, jobs and the economy.
The Premier also thanked his colleague Premier Christy Clark for hosting the 2011 meeting. “The work of Premier Clark and her team resulted in good discussions and debate on issues that are important for Canadians in all provinces and territories,” said Premier Dexter.
The annual Council of the Federation Summer Meeting, which is held on a rotational basis, will be in Halifax from July 25 to 27, 2012. The meeting will also provide Nova Scotia with an opportunity to showcase its unique culture, heritage and diversity.
The Council of the Federation was created in 2003 to promote provincial- territorial cooperation and closer ties between members, foster meaningful relations between governments based on respect for the Constitution and recognition of the diversity within the federation, and show leadership on issues important to all Canadians.
